Matt Wasteney update:

5 April 23, 2008 at 11:32 PM PDT
Matt was transferred out of the ICU and onto the floor on Tuesday 4-22-08! He continues to impress all of the medical professionals that are assigned to care for him. He has been working with the physical therapists as well as a variety of other folks whose unified goal is to help Matt get the heck out of the hospital as soon as possible. It is evident that Matt is receiving the best possible care from the folks at Stanford Medical Center.

Matt wants to express his thanks to everyone that has been helping him on his road to recovery. He is enjoying hearing all of the great messages of support being posted here. Matt has also asked that a very specific message be posted here on this site. "Please tell everyone that I am not going out like a Biotch!" As you can all imagine, Matt had his signature smile on his face when he said this. He then asked for a Cherry Big Gulp with crushed ice. The dieticians have not exactly approved that specific request. However, it is only a matter of time. :O)

Matt's condition continues to improve rapidly. If all goes well, His doctor is hoping to have Matt moved out of ICU and "onto the floor" in about four days. The doctor has been adamant that Matt's visitors be limited to close family members only. He is concerned about Matt getting too much stimulation too soon. As soon as Matt is moved out of the ICU he will be allowed to have many more visitors.

Matt underwent a wide variety of tests yeterday and and as soon as he is able, he will begin physical therapy as well as occupational therapy.

Matt is aware of the messages of care and concern for him that are being posted here and he is anxious to read them.

Complete entry (prior entry got cut off).

On Sunday April 13, 2008 Matt was a patient at San Ramon Valley Medical
Center, where he was diagnosed as having had a stroke. Matt was
transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley at approximately
2:30 pm. By 4:30 Matt was in neurosurgery to relieve pressure from his
cerebral cortex. The neurologist updated Matt's condition following the
surgery. He said Matt made it thru the surgery well and he wanted to
wait and watch Matt's progress. By Monday morning, Matt was moving his extremities and progressed to responding to verbal commands. At this time, Matt is alert and responsive.

As of Monday, April 16th, the doctors felt that Matt's condition was improving so well that they took him off of the respirator. Matt later had the intubation tube removed and within a very short period of time he was speaking a few words. His condition is rapidly improving.

Matt's wife, Sandi thanks everyone for all of the support the family is receiving.

At this time due to ICU regulations visitation is limited to family
members.

Please check back to the Care Page as it will be updated with Matt's
progress

EHS alumnae whereabouts...

Rick Daysog - News reporter for Honolulu Star Bulletin.

Tony Daysog - Was (or still is) the city manager of Alameda.

Tony Harris, living near Hilo, Hawaii, coaching his daughters in track and field.

Bill Green, living near Lahaina, Maui all these years. I see him every decade or so.

Kenny da clown, still dressing up as a clown. I ran into him in 2007 near Fisherman's Wharf, just as he was running for mayor of SF. I have a picture of that meeting somewhere, I'll post it if I figure out how.

Hi all,

Now that the EHS Crab Feed is over (huge success once again) we can start
thinking about the Encinal High School Golf Tournament sponsored by the
EHS Alumni Association.

If you do not live in the bay area you may not be aware of the drastic cut backs
from the state that could jeopardize our sport programs at Encinal.

THE SPORTS PROGRAMS NEEDS OUR SUPPORT MORE THAN EVER
RIGHT NOW!

Please come and support our athelthics. Even if you do not play golf we have
a great BBQ dinner for only $25.00. Or better yet, please sponsor a hole for
$100.00 (call Mario Mariani at 510 523-4816) or donate an auction item
(call Bill Westernoff 510 523-2393).

This year's date is Saturday May 24 (Memorial Day Weekend).

Please contact Tim if you are interested in golf and/or dinner reservations.

I was so sorry to hear about Mrs. Murphy. You couldn't get anything past her. She was sharp as a tack. I made the mistake of underestimating her in '84 once! She was one of my favorite teachers and She will be remembered and missed, Tish, class of '85
