ShockedMargie let however it was that you asked to try and get a committee together know that I am willing to do the mail out. Also there will be something in the ECHO regarding the ceremony at the school June 11 and also that our class will be invited to the picnic at Washington Park June 12 there will also be an alumni meeting that morning prior to the picnic.

Should the committee never develop there will be plenty of opportunity for our class to get together graduation weekend. I will be at the ceremony at the school it is an honor to be included in the class of 2010 ceremony. I hope that those people that were going to come to Alameda to attend a party would want to be a part of this year ceremony, we don’t want to be the class that drops the ball and only a handful of people show up.

Please also post the information you have posted here in the guest book in the reunion blog as many people may not read the guest book.

Sad I am sorry but I have to back out of organizing the 50 year reunion for the class of 1960 it is not because I just don't feel like it but I have had 4 back surgeries and after the third one I knew I would not be able to do it. I asked another to take the time to try to get a committe together to do this so if you are called please say yes you will help. I had a lot of fun planning the ones I did and I would not want to do another if I could not do it the way it should be done. I could make a couple calls say the Elks Club and McGee's for a get together and that would be a bare bones one! Please help make your reunion a fun time for all!!!! If a lot of people help then a lot only has to do a little!
Again I am sorry.

As many of you already know the Alumni Associations has been working on a number of projects to reinforce Jet Pride at EHS. One project has been to restore the Athletic Hall of Fame to its former glory. The Athletic Hall of Fame committee has also selected 12 new student inductees and four coaches.

To celebrate the completion of the restoration and welcome the new members the committee has planed an event for Nov 7, 2009. The event will include a display of sports photos, inductee ceremony, and dinner. We hope that many of you will want to be a part of this event to recognize the accomplishments of your fellow Alumni and to celebrate the restoration of the Athletic Hall of Fame. Time place of the event:
Encinal High School Gym 7:00pm
$40 per person tax donation
Deadline is October 24, 2009, checks only will reserve reservations.

Make checks payable to EHS Athletic Hall of Fame and mail to:

CLASS OF ENCINAL HIGH SCHOOL 1960
CELEBRATES ITS 50IETH ANNIVERSARY

We have 407 days to plan our 50ieth graduation celebration!!!!
Here are some thoughts I have had.
Remember, all this can be changed by the majority rule, just let me know, I am not the boss lady, I am doing this for us not me.
Friday afternoon: We will march out with the class of 2010 and sit in the stands for their graduation and be awarded our certificates.
Friday night: Gathering at some watering hole. Bar/Grill, will try to find a nice place depending on the number of people we have interested in attending.
Saturday day: Maybe a tour of the school for those interested especially those who have not been back for 50 years. Or rekindle old friendships, or make plans with friends or family in area. Bay cruise? Ideas?
Saturday night: Elks Club: dinner and dancing, door prizes and I hope fun and I promise to keep it all to a minimum so you will have more time to talk and dance. Any suggestions on a menu? How about a crab feed?
Sunday afternoon: Tradition has been a potluck picnic at Washington Park do we want to do that or does someone living in the area have a large enough yard to host us there? We will bring food and clean up. Won’t we? YES! WE WILL!!
I will need a little help.
First and foremost: Finding people who I have no information on. If you are reading this you may still be on our ‘missing’ list. Maybe you don’t want me to have your info but if you want to come to the reunion then I need it and I am sure there are a few friends who would love to see you again. If you know where someone is or lots of someone’s please tell them to get in touch with me or give me their info, with their permission. All info to get in touch with me will be at the bottom.
Second: I need help with a few small things.
Donating door prizes.
Decorating, which will be really simple.
(big thing)Someone to make nametags, and if you do not want your graduation picture on it send another one (small one, black and white, high school age). My husband used his boot camp picture.
If I send posters to you, you tell me how many, will you post them somewhere to get the word around? Last time I mailed them to supermarkets all over the bay area and businesses and Joyce Johnson (God Bless her) she put them up everywhere.
Third: Taking frantic calls from me. Just kidding.
Now to get in touch with me:
Phone: 360-837-2001 home May-Oct
928-680-1417 home Oct-Apr
360-903-0191 cell anytime
mail: PO BOX 221
Washougal WA 98671-0221 (will be forwarded)
Email: marjoriehitch@aol.com

I want to have lots of addresses and emails for our first snail mail so can we work on that now? Will you please help me and post this, or your version, on sites, where there is another community of alumnus from EHS and then send me the site so I can join? Also, please let me know you read this, either reply here or email me. It would be so kind since it took me so long to write this, this is the third version, the first two disappeared.
Please lets make this the best reunion of all reunions!!!
With your help we can do it!!!!!
Thank you,
Margie or Maggie

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. - Dune, "Litany Against Fear", 1965.

Tongue Hello Encinal High School graduates, friends, and supporters ~

We are all aware of the hardship and uncertainty of our current economic times. Our schools are certainly not immune to the situation and are constantly facing cut-backs. So many students and community members throughout Alameda lobbied hard last year to pass Measure H, in part to help "save" our high school athletic programs. It passed by a slim margin, but the funds have not yet been allocated. Once again, we are looking at creative ways to finance a critical component to a high schooler's experience - athletic competition.

The Encinal High Boosters stand behind all efforts to maintain high school sports. Our largest fundraiser of the year, the annual Crab Feed and Auction, is slated for Saturday, March 28, at the O’Club, Alameda Point (the Base!). This event cannot be successful without your help and support. Tickets will soon be on sale at EHS, and we hope you can attend this fun event.

We are also reaching out to you for donations that can be used for live and silent auctions. Do you have frequent flier miles you can give up? Do you have vacation property that can be auctioned as a weekend getaway? How about a sports collectible item? Can you provide a gift certificate for a product or service? Or maybe you know of someone that you can contact for a donation?

Sue and I have been chairing the event for Encinal High for the last 5 years. Each year we have over 50 parent and staff volunteers and another 50 student/athletes that serve dinner. We usually sell about 350 tickets and have special alumni, civic and school guests - it has truly become a wonderful community event for EHS. The effort has helped to raise over $150,000 for the EHS athletic program!

So please come join us and many of your school alums. Bring your friends. And if you can, your generous donation will help us continue the tradition of a fun, and prosperous, Crab Feed event.

Thanks for your consideration. If you have any questions or are willing to donate, please contact Phil Canalin at dakcan@sbcglobal.net or call me at (510) 769-9896.

Thank you very much. Take care, Phil

End of Notes:
If you can help at the snack shack please contact Phil at Dakcan@sbcglobbal.net There is a meeting planed for Sept 22, 2008 at 6:30PM in the teacher faculty room.
If you want to help it would be a good idea to attend this meeting.

From the treasure's report you would think we have a lot
of money. Most of the money in our bank account is
slated to go to the school once it has been determined
by the committee what they will purchase with those funds.

Without the golf tournament process we have around $1,600
and that is not much.

Since we hope to do inductions ceremony for the
newest hall of fame members, athletic and maybe civic hall
of fame, we will need a lot more then $1,600.

Currently members have been our main source of income
and a number of members have been very generous with
their time and money and their support is appreciated.

We understand that many of you don't have time to
attend meetings and help with other activities. It does
not take a lot of time to pull out the old check book
and write out a check to EHSAA. The dues are not
much just $20 for new members and $10 for renewing
members. You can contact me at CLSweet@pacbell.net and I will send you an application.
